چکیده

The tunneling ability of the Formosan subterranean termite Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki through a cellulose insulation material containing11.1% boric acid was tested in choice and nochoice bioassays. We examined tunneling behavior and mortality of termites exposed to treated and untreated insulation material in miniature simulated wall voids. In a choice test termites tunneled through untreated insulation in all but one of the replicates used. Termites were unable to fully penetrate any of the replicates containing treated insulation and experienced a significantly higher mortality (78.4 ± 18.4%) than termites exposed to untreated insulation (11.6 ± 5.6%, F = 60.4, df = 1, P < 0.0001). In a no-choice test termites fully penetrated all replicates containing untreated insulation and experienced 37.1 ± 37.2% mortality. Termites exposed to treated insulation in this test experienced a significantly higher mortality of 100.0% (F = 14.3, df = 1, P < 0.005), and did not fully penetrate the treated insulation.

Effect of Pre-Treated Chemicals on Keeping Quality and Vase Life of Cut Rose (Rosa hybrida cv.‘ Yellow Island’)

Nanosilver of nanometer-sized silver (Ag+) particles (2-5 nm diam) are used in various applications as an anti-microbial. Boric acid (H3BO3) is water soluble (pH=7). Boric acid is ethylene synthese inhibitor and reduce ethylene production through reducing the ACC synthase and ACC oxidase delays senescence of flower. In this study of different concentrations of boric acid and nano-silver was eva...

Growth behavior of Clostridium botulinum type E beluga was studied in Acipenser persicus granular caviar treated with 5% NaCl, 5%NaCl plus 0.3% boric acid and 0.4%borax and 5%NaCl plus 0.15% methyl paraben incubated at temperatures -2, 5 and 15 °C for 224 days. The initial number of inoculated bacterial spore was 5.1×104 cfu/g caviar in each treated sample. The number of bacterial spores in sam...

Horizontal transfer of boron by the Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki) after feeding on treated wood

The goal of the present study was to determine whether Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki workers exposed to boron-treated wood were capable of transferring quantifiable amounts of boron to non-exposed nestmates. This effect is called horizontal transfer. Borates are not repellent to termites, nor do they cause rapid mortality, making them excellent candidates for the study of horizontal transfer. ...

Comparison of Boric Acid with Clotrimazole in the Treatment of Recurrent or Resistant Vulvovaginitis Caused by Non-Albicans Species of Candida

Background: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most common infections in gynecologic filed, and non–albicans Candida species are emerging causative microorganisms. This species shows resistance to routine treatments. One of the suggested treatments is administration of vaginal suppositories of boric acid. The aim of the present study was to compare boric acid with clotrimazole in the treatm...

Evaluating Foliar Application of Calcium Nitrate, Calcium Chloride and Boric Acid on Physiological Disorders of ‘Kaleh - Ghoochi’ Pistachio

Pistachio suffers from some physiological disorders such as fruit abscission, endocarp lesion, blankness, non-split, early-split and deformed nuts. In this experiment, the effects of calcium nitrate (2 gr/lit), calcium chloride (2 gr/lit), boric acid (200 ppm) and their combination treatments were investigated on physiological disorders of ‘Kaleh-Ghoochi’ pistachio. Foliar application was appli...
